Our History

"When we started, we sat on rugs spread on the ground. Today we have a proper school building, with proper class rooms, metal furniture, a library, a computer room, an audio-visual room, sports facilities, and several very dedicated volunteers...it all seems like a dream."

Kamal Capoor
Coordinator, The Happy School

"I want to place on record my appreciation of the good/noble work done by you (Kamal Capoor) and other colleagues, doing voluntary selfless service to serve the noble cause of spreading literacy in less privileged part of our society."

An individual's passion turns in to community's pride...

The Happy School started in 1998 with five children in Ms Capoor's little front lawn. The idea was to give the underprivileged children in the neighborhood happy memories of their childhood. Soon she found some eager volunteers to help take the cause further. As students and volunteers increased, the school moved to the road outside her house...

...as student number increased further, the school moved to a green belt in the neighborhood where the books and other material could be stored in almirahs and left out—as also the benches and tables required for children to sit and study. And the place started filling up...

...in June 2006, the school was given premises by the Haryana Child Welfare Department. Now, in addition to regular course work, children learn music, painting, art and craft. The school has infrastructure for various sports such as soccer, cricket, volleyball, basketball, and badminton. What therefore started as Ms Capoor's passion has turned into Gurgaon community's pride.
